Fourth up: Andrea Savage<\/b>, whose comedy \u201cI\u2019m Sorry\u201d launched its second season over at truTV on Wednesday, and Shea Whigham<\/b> from the Golden Globe Award-winning Adam McKay feature \u201cVice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Andrea Savage<\/p><\/div>\n

THE PERFORMER: <\/b>Andrea Savage<\/span><\/p>\n

THE SERIES: <\/b>\u201cI\u2019m Sorry\u201d on truTV<\/span><\/p>\n

THE PERFORMANCE: <\/b>Savage, who hails from the world of stand-up and improv comedy (The Groundlings), brings a Larry David-esque energy to her role as a comedy writer, wife (to Tom Everett Scott), mother (to a six-year-old) and daughter (to Kathy Baker) in a show that\u2019s like \u201cModern Family\u201d on steroids. She co-created it (with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay) and makes herself the butt of pretty much every joke.<\/span><\/p>\n

Indeed, \u201cI\u2019m Sorry\u201d is one awkward scenario after another, putting Savage\u2019s neurosis front and center. She\u2019s broad, she\u2019s brassy, but at the same time she\u2019s oddly appealing (as well as easy on the eyes). In the opening installment of Season Two, she wonders aloud how much she\u2019d be able to charge were she a prostitute and wrestles with her kindergarten daughter\u2019s questions about menstruation and pubic hair.<\/span><\/p>\n

When her mother accidentally flashes some breast in front of her husband, Andrea asks, \u201cDo you see a family resemblance in the nipples?\u201d As her daughter stubbornly maintains that her father doesn\u2019t have pubic hair, she finally blurts, \u201cI\u2019m not gonna argue with you about this. Daddy has pubic hair!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, apropos of nothing, she reasons, \u201cParenting can lick my butt.\u201d She\u2019s divertingly raunchy, but she\u2019s such a force of nature you can\u2019t help but root for her.<\/span><\/p>\n

THE CAREER: <\/b>Prior to \u201cI\u2019m Sorry,\u201d Savage was best known as Laura Montez, the Acting President of the United States after winning a disputed 2016 election on the HBO comedy \u201cVeep\u201d (a seven-episode arc in 2017). She also portrayed Helen Basch during a season-long arc on Showtime\u2019s \u201cEpisodes\u201d as the lesbian head of the network.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to both of those, she had a regular role on the Comedy Central mockumentary \u201cDog Bites Man\u201d (2006) as well as a small part in the Will Ferrell-John C. Reilly comedy feature \u201cStep Brothers.\u201d That\u2019s not to mention her pair of Hulu reality parodies \u201cThe Hotwives of Orlando\u201d (2014) and \u201cThe Hotwives of Las Vegas\u201d (2015) and a role in the comedy feature \u201cSleeping with Other People.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Shea Whigham<\/p><\/div>\n

THE PERFORMER: <\/b>Shea Whigham<\/span><\/p>\n

THE FILM: <\/b>\u201cVice\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

THE PERFORMANCE: <\/b>Whigham only appears in \u201cVice\u201d for maybe two minutes, but he\u2019s so good it stands out as a showstopping moment.<\/span><\/p>\n

It happens early in the film, after Dick Cheney\u2019s mother-in-law, Edna, turns up drowned in a lake. She couldn\u2019t swim, so it\u2019s more than a little bit suspicious. The prime suspect is her husband, Wayne, who\u2019d reportedly been in a bitter argument with his wife an hour before.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whigham portrays Wayne in a scene of subtle acting power. He has just been playing with his two young granddaughters when Cheney approaches.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wayne (to Christian Bale\u2019s Cheney): \u201cHey, Dick. You catching any fish?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Cheney burns a hole through him with his intense glare.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wayne: \u201cHow\u2019s it going in D.C.?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Cheney: \u201cDon\u2019t ever go near my daughters or my wife again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After a tense beat, Cheney walks away.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wayne (yelling): \u201cBig shot! Big shot in D.C., Dick!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Watching the exchange on screen literally takes your breath away. That\u2019s how good Whigham is.<\/span><\/p>\n

THE CAREER: <\/b>Having just turned 50 last Saturday, Whigham is something of a late acting bloomer. His big break came when he appeared opposite Colin Farrell in the 2000 Joel Schumacher military drama \u201cTigerland.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But it was in 2010 that his career really began to kick into gear. Whigham landed a regular role as Eli Thompson on the HBO series \u201cBoardwalk Empire,\u201d followed by cameos in the David O. Russell films \u201cSilver Linings Playbook\u201d (2012) and \u201cAmerican Hustle\u201d (2013). Then came a season on FX\u2019s \u201cFargo\u201d in 2017 and, last year, eight episodes on the acclaimed Julia Roberts drama \u201cHomecoming\u201d for Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n

And later this year, he\u2019ll be in the Todd Phillips-directed \u201cJoker\u201d (due in October) with Joaquin Phoenix<\/a> and Robert De Niro. Currently, Whigham is filming \u201cModern Love,\u201d an Amazon comedy anthology based on the popular New York Times column and co-starring Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Catherine Keener, John Slattery, Dev Patel and Andy Garcia.<\/span><\/p>\n
